Muggle
- A nonmagical human in the HP universe. Could have magical or nonmagical descent, but most commonly are of families apart from the magical world. This term is easy to figure out because Hagrid himself tells Harry exactly what it means.
Diagon Alley
- A place in the wizarding world that sells many magical goods. Figuring this out was a little harder, but based on what they do there and how Hagrid tells him Harry will be able to find whatever he needs there, it's easy to tell that this is some sort of open market for wizards.
Hogwarts
- A wizarding school in the Scottish Highlands that accepts students from both Ireland and Great Britain. It is over a thousand years old. We are told what this place is fairly early on, although for a little while we know nothing but the name.
Sorting
- There are four Houses within Hogwarts (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin) and the Sorting is a ceremony for first-years in which the Sorting Hat is placed upon their head and they are categorized into which House best suits them. This process is shown to us during Harry's own sorting.
Wizard's Chess
- A wizarding game that closely resembles Muggle chess, but the pieces are alive and have their own opinions about your moves. Harry plays this game with his friend Ron, and the pieces take issue with his lack of skills.
Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans
- Magic candy that resembles jellybeans, in which every bean could take any possible flavor in the world, from vomit to peppermint. This candy is first seen on the bus to Hogwarts, and Ron explains how they could be any flavor.
