Briar and I are planning on making a video detailing the body autonomy rights of AFAB folk. We’ll be taking any posts we find from Twitter or Tumblr and making a sort of collagey video that’s meant to inspire behavioral change in how people not only think of sexual violence from a gendered standpoint, but an intersectional one as well. We may also use other sorts of images or videos that we find invoke specific emotional reactions. Briar and I plan to upload this video to YouTube at some point in our attempt to engage with online sources. Thus far, our aim is to try and create a video that will inspire people to change how they view AFABs and the notion that all those struggling with this topic are women. We want to make people want to do something, we want to incite passion! This will likely be easiest through including videos of MeToo protests.
We’re choosing video because we wanted to change things up, and video is one of the most effective ways to conjure passion. It’s easier to watch and learn from for a lot of people as well, which is largely the point.
Potential ideas we’ve discussed are including poetry along the personal stories and inserting the “Kill All Men” song. These are two drastically different tones, so it will really depend on whether this project ends up going in a more serious or memey direction. It’s honestly very difficult to tell sometimes before you start making the actual video.
